Cost of Treatment

Can I afford to have therapy, or can I afford not to have therapy?

Feeling better need not be expensive, and unlike the other forms of treatment such as medical treatment, you can chose to discontinue at any time. On many occasions good results can be obtained from few sessions, for example making decisions, or finding redirection following the loss of a job, an unwanted change in a relationship/marriage, dealing with an adolescents problematic behaviour, or the loss of a loved pet. Each individual can experience results differently and some may need longer than others to recover.  Many times however it may invariably take longer to find resolution from major life changes, such as healing from physical, mental or emotional abuse in childhood.

Of course, therapy can be expensive, especially if paying "out of pocket." This is just as true for other forms of treatment, for example medical, dental or eye care. As a rough guide only for psychotherapy, counselling and hypnotherapy, let us compare cost in the UK and USA. (These services are for a 45-50 minute session.)  The average in the UK is £70 to £100, $150.00 USD to $200.00 USD in the US. This is 4500 to 6000 Baht. As an experienced, trained and qualified practitioner, my fees are well below UK, and US averages and are in line with the typical billing rate for private therapeutic services in Bangkok which is 3000 Baht per session.  Additionally I do not adhere to the 50 minute hour. Sessions can range in duration from 60 - 75 minutes with no additional billing. For those whose income is minimal, other options could be discussed.

I would also like to suggest ways to minimize the number of sessions and thus your cost. For example, where it is appropriate, there is the support offered by family and friends; also there are often support groups locally. Becoming involved in these can speed recovery. In addition there are self help books, and internet sources which can help move the healing process forward. These can be found through directory listings, from therapists, or from hospitals.

Therapy, whatever its cost, is an investment in you - your health - and your emotional well being. Satisfying relationships, good health and professional development can all be greatly improved with therapy, and while there is a cost for services it could well be
one of the best
investments in your life.
